Russia violates ceasefire as Ukraine responds symmetrically

The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to carry out the tasks of the defensive operation. The command emphasizes that the ceasefire must be mutual, according to the Main Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ukrainian service members are currently continuing to carry out the tasks of the defensive operation in full.
"The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to carry out their assigned tasks to defend Ukraine in accordance with the plan," the Armed Forces of Ukraine's Main Communications Directorate reports.
They emphasize that a ceasefire cannot be implemented unilaterally. According to a representative of the department, such an arrangement also cannot be asymmetrical.
"A ceasefire cannot be unilateral or asymmetric; otherwise, it would pose a danger to the lives and health of our service members. Therefore, the objectives of the defensive operation are currently being fully carried out," the spokesperson adds.
Background
The initiative for a temporary air ceasefire was announced on the eve of US representatives' visit to Ukraine and Russia.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy states that Kyiv is ready to refrain from airstrikes during this period.
He noted that Kyiv’s goal is to visit as constructive and substantive as possible.
However, on the morning of September 5, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported new strikes on Ukraine, confirming that Moscow did not support the proposed temporary ceasefire.
