Trump's envoys to visit Kyiv, Russia expected to suspend strikes - Zelenskyy

US President's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will visit Kyiv on Sunday, August 6. At that time, the Russians are expected to suspend their attacks, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's evening address.
Trump's envoys' visit
According to him, the visit was finally agreed on today, September 4.
"The details are from the American president's team. Today we discussed that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will visit Moscow and then Kyiv on Sunday," the president said.
He added that Ukraine is preparing for the visit and that a meeting has already been held with the broad diplomatic team working with the United States.
Ceasefire
Zelenskyy noted that, as during previous visits by the US side, Ukraine will ensure the "normal functioning of Russian airspace" to guarantee the safety of US officials.
"From our side, there will be no airstrikes, and Russia should likewise ensure a halt to its airstrikes for the time needed to hold these talks and resolve the logistical issues related to this US visit," he added.
Ukraine's goal
The head of state separately noted that Ukraine wants to ensure the visit and talks with the US officials are as constructive and substantive as possible.
At the same time, real options for ending the war now need to be sought.
"Let's see what proposals Steve and Jared have and what they will be told about them in Moscow," Zelenskyy added.
Witkoff and Kushner's visit
US President's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have never visited Kyiv. At the same time, they have traveled to Moscow several times and met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said back in May that he expected Witkoff and Kushner to visit around the transition from spring to summer, but the US officials never came to Kyiv.
Witkoff and Kushner were also expected to visit the Ukrainian capital on Ukraine's Independence Day, but that did not happen. According to media reports, Russian strikes were the reason.
