Ukraine is working on developing low-cost missiles to shoot down Russian Shahed drones, and some of these solutions are already undergoing testing, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
"Following the President’s directive, we are now focused on developing low-cost missiles to shoot down Shahed drones. We have already identified solutions that are nearly ready and have begun testing them," Fedorov says.
According to him, the current goal is to scale up production tenfold and build up a stockpile of these missiles for the fall and winter.
"We want to scale up and reduce the cost of interceptor missiles to prepare for the arrival of jet-powered Shaheds. This will help further protect critical infrastructure, in addition to interceptor drones. To this end, we are issuing grants, scaling up production, and restarting team recruitment," the Minister adds.
Ukraine successfully shoots down Shaheds
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that the front line has stabilized after the winter, and the drone shootdown rate has reached 90%.
Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov also reported that Ukraine has learned to shoot down 90% of Russian drones and nearly 80% of cruise missiles, even after a harsh winter when Russia doubled the number of attacks.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine also reported for the first time on the successful results of private air defense units, which have already begun carrying out combat missions.
