Ukraine emerged from the most difficult winter with stronger positions: the front line has been stabilized, while the interception rate of enemy drones reached 90%, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said ahead of the Foreign Affairs Council taking place on 11 May 2026 in Brussels.

Frontline and sky

Sybiha stated that after last winter, Ukraine became stronger — primarily thanks to support from partners.

"On the battlefield, we stabilize the front. We stabilize the front, and we are also in a position that we close the sky," he said.

According to him, Ukraine is now shooting down up to 90% of aerial objects with which Russia attacks the country.

In addition to successes in defense, Sybiha also spoke about pressure on Moscow.

"Also, we are conducting very effective special long-range sanctions, and they are working," the minister said.

The minister emphasized that he arrived in Brussels with a feeling of new momentum. Security and efforts to achieve peace are on the agenda.

"We try to use any opportunity to bring peace closer, just and comprehensive peace," Sybiha noted.

He also spoke about Europe's new role in the peace process. According to him, the main negotiation track is taking place under the leadership of the United States — and it remains necessary. However, Europe can play its own additional role.

"We are talking not about alternative peace talks, or peace track, or diplomatic track, but about complementary," the minister clarified.

Earlier, Sybiha was traveling to Brussels for talks with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union, including on strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and advancing the peace process.

Meanwhile, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas stated that at the end of May, foreign ministers of European Union countries will discuss the bloc's position regarding possible negotiations with Russia.
