Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with Bundestag President Julia Klöckner the possibility of increasing the amount Germany could allocate for military aid to Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian President.

During the meeting, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Germany for its decision to allocate €7 billion in military assistance to Ukraine in 2025.

"We also addressed the possibility of increasing this amount - we are counting on parliamentary support," he noted.

Zelenskyy also named the main topics of the meeting with the Bundestag President:

  • defense aid,
  • investments in the Ukrainian defense industry,
  • support for Ukraine's European integration path.

"We discussed ways to bring a just and lasting peace closer. So far, Russia has made no moves in that direction. It is crucial to act together to stop its aggression," Zelenskyy said.

Germany's support for Ukraine

Germany has been actively supporting Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. Berlin's assistance includes financial, humanitarian, and military sectors.

As previously reported, on May 28, the German Ministry of Defense approved a new military aid package for Ukraine worth €5 billion.

Germany will also fund the production of long-range weapons in Ukraine in the future. A significant portion of these systems is expected to be produced this year.

Additionally, Ukraine signed a contract with the German defense industry.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz previously announced that Germany would provide substantial funding for Starlink services in Ukraine.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius also pledged continued support for Ukraine's medical sector. Germany will finance medical equipment, including that produced in Ukraine.

Furthermore, on May 28, Ukraine and Germany signed a contract for the production of IRIS-T air defense systems and missiles.
