Air defense, Starlink, and weapons: Germany to provide Ukraine with €5 billion in aid

Ukraine and Germany have signed an agreement on funding long-range weapons produced in Ukraine. A separate contract was also concluded between Ukraine and the German defense industry, according to the Bundeswehr.
The corresponding agreement was signed by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. It is noted that the German Ministry of Defense has agreed to provide Ukraine with new military aid worth 5 billion euros.
Germany will fund the future production of long-range weapons in Ukraine. A significant number of long-range weapons systems are expected to be produced in 2025.
"The weapons systems will be quickly available to the Ukrainian Armed Forces — the first of them could be deployed within a few weeks. Since they are already in use by Ukraine’s armed forces, no additional training is needed," the statement said.
Germany will also continue to supply ammunition. In addition to the artillery ammunition already promised for 2025, further ammunition packages for various weapons systems are planned, including for critical air defense systems. Germany is also supplying Ukraine with additional ground-based weapons systems and firearms.
In addition, Umerov and the German defense company Diehl signed a contract for the delivery of air defense systems and corresponding ammunition to Ukraine.
Where the funds will go
Germany's assistance will also be directed toward repair facilities in Ukraine. For this purpose, defense companies from both countries have agreed to establish a joint venture.
Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that his country would provide a significant portion of the funding for Starlink in Ukraine. According to the statement, Germany has already taken on the responsibility of financing part of the satellite communication services as of April. The same applies to the communication system for Ukraine’s military command.
Pistorius also pledged further support for Ukraine in the medical sector. Germany will finance medical equipment, which will also be produced in Ukraine.
These support services for the Ukrainian Armed Forces amount to approximately five billion euros in total. The funds are sourced from allocations already approved by the Bundestag.
Taurus from Germany
Earlier, German media reported that Germany had allegedly decided to classify its arms deliveries to Ukraine. Previously, all of Berlin’s military support was public and published online.
At the same time, Friedrich Merz stated that he was ready to approve the transfer of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
