Ukraine can freely use Canadian-supplied weapons on Russian territory - CBC News
Ukraine can freely use Canadian-supplied weapons on Russian territory, according to CBC News.
According to the Ministry of National Defense of Canada, the country has transferred eight Leopard 2A4 tanks, several dozen armored combat support vehicles, and hundreds of armored patrol vehicles, as well as several M-777 howitzers to Ukraine.
"Ukrainians know best how to defend their homeland, and we're committed to supporting their capacity," says Andrée-Anne Poulin, a spokesperson for the defense department.
"Canada places no geographic restrictions on the use of military equipment that we donate to Ukraine," she adds.
According to the news agency, footage shot by CNN on the Ukrainian border on Thursday showed a Canadian-made Senator patrol car crossing the border with Russia.
However, it is unclear whether the Ukrainian brigades were carrying Canadian weapons when they launched their breakthrough operation into the Kursk region.
Poulin emphasizes that Canadian aid always complies with the Arms Trade Treaty, an international agreement designed to reduce illegal arms transfers and human rights abuses.
Canada's assistance to Ukraine
Canada has been providing military support to Ukraine since the full-scale invasion of Russia. During this time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already received many drones, anti-tank grenade launchers, and howitzers. Ottawa also provides humanitarian and energy assistance to Kyiv.
In July, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a new, additional package of military support for Ukraine of CAD 500 million.
Also in May, Canada announced the allocation of over $55 million for air defense systems for Ukraine.
