Ukrainian forces destroy Russians in Sumy region, pushing back enemy near Oleksiivka and Yunakivka

Ukrainian forces continue their offensive on the Northern-Slobozhanskyi direction. Units have advanced up to 2.5 kilometers while maintaining fire control over key enemy logistics routes, Spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andrii Kovalov, says in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian military, on the Northern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian soldiers continue active operations aimed at destroying the enemy and liberating Ukrainian settlements.
“In the relevant areas, the advance of Ukrainian units ranges from 1 to 2.5 kilometers,” Kovalov said.
At the same time, as the Spokesperson explained, to prevent enemy logistics, evacuation, and reinforcement in certain locations, zones of continuous fire coverage against the enemy are maintained.
Kovalov specified that active operations are taking place in the areas of Oleksiivka and Yunakivka in the Sumy region.
Situation on front
Earlier today, August 16, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that on the Northern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Russian troops tried to transport a cannon across a river on a destroyed bridge by truck.
However, the Russians failed because Ukrainian fighters acted more quickly.
Meanwhile, over the past 24 hours, Russian troops suffered significant losses in battles against Ukraine, with their numbers reduced by more than 1,000 soldiers.
As of 4:00 p.m. Kyiv time on August 16, nearly 70 combat clashes have been recorded on the front.
According to the General Staff of Ukraine, the most active fighting is currently ongoing in several directions that remain the hottest spots on the front line.
