Ukraine and Greece sign security agreement: Athens to assist in F-16 pilot training
Ukraine signed a security agreement with Greece today, October 17. As a result of this decision, Athens will participate in training Ukrainian pilots, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Today, together with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, we signed a Security Cooperation Agreement. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Greece has provided military assistance to Ukraine, including material-technical and training support," Zelenskyy stated.
He noted that Greece is ready to continue addressing the most urgent defense needs of Ukraine.
"It will provide additional resources to expedite the training of our pilots and technical personnel for F-16 aircraft. I thank Greece for all its support and for all the opportunities to defend our country and its people!" the President concluded.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Since this year, Ukraine has begun signing so-called security agreements with partner countries. These agreements include a wide range of support measures for Ukraine, including military and economic assistance as well as political support.
In addition to general provisions, each partner country also provides Ukraine with individual commitments that are in line with its capabilities and potential.
To date, Ukraine has signed security guarantee agreements with over 15 European states and the United States. Partner countries include the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Croatia, and Iceland.
Specifically, at the end of June, Ukraine and the European Union signed a security agreement.
