Ukrainian counterattacks derail Russia's new operations on the front - ISW

Over the past day, Russian invaders attempted to break through and advance in various sectors of the front. However, the Defense Forces of Ukraine stopped the enemy in time, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Kharkiv region
Russian forces continued offensive operations in northern Kharkiv region and in the direction of Velykyi Burluk, but were unable to advance due to counterattacks by Ukrainian forces.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces also conducted limited assaults on September 1, but no confirmed advance was recorded. The Defense Forces continued to counterattack.
The day before, Russian sources circulated videos claiming that Russian soldiers were in Velyka Shapkivka, northwest of Kupiansk and north of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. Based on this footage, the occupiers claimed that their forces had supposedly advanced.
At the same time, ISW analysts believe that the videos could have been fabricated or created using artificial intelligence.
Yesterday, Russian forces continued offensive operations in the direction of Borova, but did not achieve success due to counterattacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to Russian sources, Ukrainian forces counterattacked west of Borova — north of Shyikivka, near Ridkodub and Novyi, as well as in the direction of Katerynivka southeast of Borova.
Some Russian military bloggers acknowledged the advance of Ukrainian troops and their tactically important successes in this part of the front.
Donetsk region
On August 31 and September 1, Russian invaders continued offensive operations in the Sloviansk direction, but had no confirmed advance.
New Ukrainian counterattacks took place both north and south of Lyman, which is located northeast of Sloviansk.
The Russian army conducted offensive operations in the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka directions. But no confirmed successes or advances by Russian forces were recorded.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Russian forces conducted limited offensive operations on September 1, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to repel the enemy.
Zaporizhzhia region
On August 31 and September 1, Russian forces conducted limited offensive operations in the Huliaipole direction, but did not achieve any confirmed advance.
Ukrainian forces continued to carry out medium-range strikes against Russian facilities and logistical routes in the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region.
Ukrainian drones attacked vehicles on the M-14 Rostov–Crimea highway, as well as on the N-30 Berdiansk–Tokmak–Vasylivka highway north of Tokmak.
Sumy region
Over the past day, the Russian army continued its offensive in northern Sumy region, but was unable to break through and advance.
Russian military bloggers claimed that the occupiers entered Ulanove and advanced near Potapivka and Sadky — all of these settlements are located northwest of Sumy. However, there is currently no confirmation of these claims.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported on the successful and lightning-fast offensive by the Khartiia brigade near Kupiansk.
The Defense Forces of Ukraine also successfully struck air defense elements, command posts, and warehouses in Russia and Crimea.
