Ukraine and Finland have launched an international civil defense coalition of shelters to support the Ukrainian state. The plan is to build more than 5,000 shelters by 2030, stated Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal on X.

"We are launching an international Coalition of civil defence shelters together with Finland to support our country. Ukraine and Finland will also strengthen the cooperation in security, energy, education and other key areas," he noted.

According to him, he signed the relevant documents today with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo during a meeting in Kyiv.

"Our goal is to build 2,300 civil defence shelters by 2027 and another 3,000 by 2030. We call on the international community to join the Coalition and contribute to the construction of shelters in Ukraine. We are grateful to the Finnish government for its support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people," the Ukrainian Prime Minister added.

Finland's aid to Ukraine

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Finland has been actively assisting Ukraine in the military, financial, and humanitarian spheres. Military support includes weapons, ammunition, equipment, and training for Ukrainian soldiers.

In March, Finland decided to provide 36.5 million euros in humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Finland also announced the 28th package of military aid to Ukraine. It is worth about 200 million euros ($217 million).

In addition, Finland has signed an agreement with the European Commission to supply Ukraine with ammunition worth 90 million euros. The funding will come from frozen Russian assets through the European Peace Facility (EPF).
