The UK will fund the creation of an artificial intelligence center under the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, which will focus on deploying technologies on the battlefield, according to the UK government.
"This team of experts, backed by £500,000, will ensure AI is being utilised to its fullest to deliver a battlefield advantage," according to a statement on the British government’s website.
The parties plan to conclude an expanded defense agreement. Under this agreement, the United Kingdom and Ukraine will also explore opportunities to expand defense industrial and technological cooperation with third countries.
"Drones, electronic warfare and rapid battlefield innovation are now central to national and economic security, and that has only been further magnified by the conflict in the Middle East," the British Ministry of Defense adds.
Where AI will be implemented
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense notes that the Defense AI Center A1 will become the first center of excellence dedicated to integrating artificial intelligence into defense processes and developing technological solutions for modern warfare.
The mission of such centers is to continuously analyze the battlefield and technologies and determine the next steps for developing Ukraine’s defense capabilities, as in modern technological warfare, the advantage goes to those who complete the innovation cycle faster.
"AI solutions will become part of every domain of modern warfare—from intelligence to command and control. Our task is to create the most effective defense system in Europe. This is a new-generation AI-driven army based on the speed of innovation, autonomous systems, and network superiority," emphasizes Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
Ukraine ramps up drone production
Europe is ready to purchase Ukrainian drones and technology, while Ukraine is ready to purchase European ones. For example, Germany will begin manufacturing drones that have already been tested on the front lines, specifically the TYTAN Interceptor drones.
Also, in February, a joint venture with Ukraine began operations in Germany to produce drones for the needs of Kyiv and the NATO member country.
