UK conducts first successful test of radio-frequency weapon
The UK has successfully tested the Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) system for the first time. It can destroy drones using radio frequency waves, according to the press service of the British Ministry of Defense.
As the Ministry of Defense reports, the RFDEW can detect, track, and engage a range of threats on land, in the air, and at sea.
"RFDEWs are capable of neutralizing targets up to 1km away with near instant effect and at an estimated cost of 10p per shot fired," the statement says.
RFDEW uses high-frequency waves to disable or damage critical electronic components inside drones. As a result, drones become immobilized or fall from the sky.
"The successful firing by the British soldiers of our Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon is another step forward for a potentially game-changing sovereign weapon for the UK," said Maria Eagle, the British Minister of Defense Procurement and Industry.
Ukrainian laser weapons
Earlier, Colonel Vadym Sukharevskyi, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said that Ukraine had already developed the Tryzub laser weapon.
It is capable of shooting down aircraft at an altitude of up to two kilometers.
