'It is time to end the war': Zelenskyy lays out key expectations for Trump-Putin summit

Today’s meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin is expected to open the possibility for real peace between Ukraine and Russia, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff. The president is already awaiting intelligence reports on Russia’s current plans and its preparations for the summit in Alaska.
“Indeed, high stakes. The key thing is that this meeting should open up a real path toward a just peace and a substantive discussion between leaders in a trilateral format – Ukraine, the United States, and the Russian side. It is time to end the war, and the necessary steps must be taken by Russia,” the president noted.
He added that Ukraine is counting on the United States and is ready to work as productively as possible.
The meeting also considered the development of the contract system in the Defense Forces. He assured that the army, under any circumstances, will be ready to respond effectively and swiftly to threats to Ukrainian statehood.
“The priority is the development of a contract army,” Zelenskyy specified.
