Trump says Putin agrees to provide security guarantees to Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, said US President Donald Trump during a meeting with European leaders.
"President Putin agreed that Russia would accept security guarantees for Ukraine. This is one of the key points we need to consider. Also, we are going to be considering at the table who will do what," he stated.
Trump noted that he is optimistic the US and EU can reach an agreement that will deter any future aggression against Ukraine.
"I actually think that won't be. It's largely overrated. But we'll find out. European nations are going to take a lot of the burden. We're going to help them and make it very secure," he added.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
European leaders have formed a Coalition of the Willing aimed at providing security guarantees for Ukraine. Recently, the coalition announced its readiness to deploy deterrence forces in Ukraine.
In addition, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said that during the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska, an understanding was reached regarding security guarantees. According to him, the US and its allies could provide Ukraine with "game-changing" guarantees based on NATO’s Article 5 principle.
US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker clarified that these guarantees would be provided outside the Alliance framework.
During talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the US President confirmed Washington’s participation in the system of guarantees. However, it remains unclear whether this will involve the presence of American troops.
