US President Donald Trump did not rule out holding negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin within the ten-day deadline to resolve the war in Ukraine, according to an interview with the head of state.

A reporter asked whether the president plans to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin before the 10-day deadline.

"We'll see what happens. We're going to have some meetings," the American leader said.

Trump’s ultimatum

In July, Donald Trump sharply criticized Putin for the massive shelling of Ukraine and gave the dictator 50 days to achieve peace with Kyiv.

If refused, he threatened to impose sanctions on countries purchasing Russian oil and additional sanctions against Russia.

However, on July 29, Trump suddenly shortened the deadline to 10 days, setting August 8 as the new deadline due to the lack of progress in the peace process.

The Kremlin declared its intention to continue the aggressive war and even threatened the US with nuclear war.

On July 31, Trump announced that the US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, would visit Moscow.

Military expert Mykhailo Samus told RBC-Ukraine that Witkoff’s trip to Moscow could be the last contact between the US president and Putin.
