Trump mentions possibility of meeting with Zelenskyy next week
US presidential candidate Donald Trump has stated that he is likely to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy next week. This meeting could coincide with President Zelenskyy's visit to the US for a speech at the United Nations Security Council session, reports Reuters.
In response to questions from the media about whether he would meet with the Ukrainian president, Trump said, "probably yes."
The Republican presidential candidate did not provide further details.
Western media have noted that in recent months, several other global leaders visiting the US for high-level meetings have also had encounters with Trump.
Additionally, it was reported yesterday that Polish President Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump might meet in Pennsylvania later this week. They are expected to discuss, among other topics, the Russian war against Ukraine.
What preceded this
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to visit the US next week, with the trip expected to take place on September 24. He will attend a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York, bringing with him Ukraine’s victory plan.
According to Voice of America, Zelenskyy will address the UN General Assembly on September 25, with a key agenda item being the potential lifting of restrictions on the Ukrainian Armed Forces' use of Western weapons against Russian territory.
In August, Zelenskyy announced his intention to present Ukraine's victory plan to US President Joe Biden, as well as to other presidential candidates, including Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
He emphasized that the plan is fully prepared and now requires decisive action to implement.
Earlier this month, Zelenskyy also shared details of a conversation he had with Trump two months ago.
