Putin lays out demands to Trump in Alaska talks: territory, sanctions, NATO

The Russian leader, Volodymyr Putin, put forward a number of demands for ending the war against Ukraine during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska. Among the demands are not only territorial concessions, according to Reuters.
According to the sources of the agency, information regarding Putin’s ultimatum is based on discussions between leaders of Europe, the USA, and Ukraine, and is not complete. However, Reuters still revealed several of Putin’s demands in Alaska.
According to the agency's data, the Russian leader's proposal excludes a ceasefire before reaching a peace agreement.
The Russian side demands from Ukraine a full withdrawal of troops from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in exchange for Russia’s commitment to freeze the front lines in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Russia is allegedly ready to return small areas in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
Putin also seeks recognition of occupied Crimea as Russian. But it is unclear whether this means recognition only from the USA, or from all Western countries and Ukraine.
Additionally, Russia seeks the cancellation of at least part of the sanctions. Also, Moscow wants Ukraine to refuse NATO membership. But, as the publication writes, it seems that Putin was open to Ukraine receiving certain security guarantees.
Another demand of the Kremlin is granting official status to the Russian language in some parts of Ukraine or throughout the entire country, as well as the right to act freely for the Russian Orthodox Church.
Trump–Putin meeting
On the night of August 16, Putin and Trump held a meeting in Alaska. The negotiations were in the format "three on three" and lasted about three hours.
After that, the leaders made a brief address to the media, but journalists were unable to ask questions.
On the way to Washington, Trump called the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the leaders of Europe. Already on August 18, Zelenskyy will visit Washington to discuss with the American leader the details of ending the war.
It is worth noting that after the meeting with Putin, the US president stated that he advocates for concluding a peace agreement immediately, rather than a ceasefire agreement. Ukraine emphasizes that it would first like to achieve a truce.
