EU exposes Putin's real endgame in his war against Ukraine

Russia seeks to trigger a political collapse in Ukraine to fully seize the country, rather than simply gain control of certain territories in the east, according to Estonian Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jonatan Vseviov, citing ERR.
Kremlin's plan
The official says that claims that Russia is seeking only limited territorial concessions in eastern Ukraine are not true. Handing over these territories would force Ukrainian troops to abandon their fortified positions.
When combined with Moscow's demands for immediate elections, its real, broader goal becomes clear—to trigger a political collapse in Ukraine.
"We have seen this scenario before. In 1939, Moscow demanded limited rights from Estonia to deploy its military bases. Less than a year later, we were occupied and annexed. Territory is a means. Ukraine is the goal. We should not fall for this tactic," Vseviov stressed.
Kremlin situation, statements on talks
There is a growing split within Russia's top leadership as the war against Ukraine drags on, while Russian President Vladimir Putin is wary of his own inner circle.
According to military intelligence, Putin fears oligarchs and influential elites, as data on Russians' electoral preferences have become a warning sign for the current regime in Russia.
Despite internal instability, Moscow periodically returns to the issue of a diplomatic settlement.
Recently, Putin's team assessed the chances of holding trilateral talks on Ukraine, saying that it considers such a format possible for ending the war.
