Zelenskyy reveals details of conversation with Trump occurred two months ago
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an interview with CNN that he and US presidential candidate Donald Trump had a phone conversation two months ago. According to the head of state, Trump was very supportive.
The President noted that he would like to share Ukraine's peace plan with U.S. President Joe Biden. However, as the head of state mentioned, it would also be appropriate to present the plan to US presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and to Congress, which plays a major role in decision-making.
When asked to comment on Trump's pre-election statements, Zelenskyy said he was not sure which specific statements were being referred to.
"My position is that election period and election messages are election messages. Sometimes they are not very real. And that's why these messages can make us nervous, all of our people," he said.
Zelenskyy added that two months ago, he had a phone conversation with Trump, and according to the president, "he was very supportive."
"We had a good conversation. It was, I think, two months ago. He understands how it's difficult to survive during the war. That's why I want to share this plan, to hear his reaction," Zelenskyy stated.
Trump's position on Ukraine
It should be noted that US presidential candidate Donald Trump has called for a reduction in aid to Ukraine and has proposed that assistance be given as a loan rather than a "gift."
Trump has repeatedly claimed that he could end the war in Ukraine within a day or even before he returns to the White House.
In recent debates with Kamala Harris, he did not answer a question about Ukraine's victory but mentioned that he wanted the war to end. His opponent essentially accused the Republicans of pandering to dictator Vladimir Putin.
