Trump falsely accuses Harris of meeting with Putin before Russia's invasion of Ukraine
The former US president and Republican Party candidate, Donald Trump, accused his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, of meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin a few days before Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, informs CNN.
During a rally in Asheboro, North Carolina, Trump claimed that Biden allegedly sent Kamala Harris to Europe to "stop the war in Ukraine." The Republican added that she supposedly met with the Russian dictator, and then "three days later, he [Putin] attacked [Ukraine]."
"How did she do? Do you think she did a good job? She met with Putin to tell him, ‘Don’t do it.’ And three days later, he attacked; that’s when the attack started," Trump said.
CNN debunks Trump's claim, pointing out the falsity of the former president's accusations against the current vice president. At that time, Harris was meeting with US allies, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at the Munich Security Conference, which took place from February 18 to 20, 2022, just days before Russia invaded Ukraine.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin was not present at that conference. This was confirmed by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who stated to Russian propaganda media a month ago that he could not recall "a single contact between President Putin and Mrs. Harris."
CNN adds that the Biden administration was still trying to prevent Russia's invasion of Ukraine when Harris arrived at the Munich conference. However, top administration officials, including the president himself, understood that the Russian leader had already decided to invade Ukraine, which would happen in the coming days.
Trump continues his attacks on Harris
With the start of Kamala Harris's candidacy for US president, the team of the former president has been trying to create a negative image of the vice president among American voters.
The Republican candidate continued to resort to outright insults against the current vice president. He stated that "he is entitled" to insult Harris because he does not respect her.
Later, Trump claimed that he looked much better than his rival and also accused Harris of engaging in a so-called "regulatory jihad," but did not explain what he meant by that.
