US President Donald Trump is considering easing sanctions against Chinese oil companies that purchase crude oil from Iran. The issue was discussed during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, according to Bloomberg.

The American leader said the topic of restrictive measures was raised during official meetings in the Chinese capital.

Trump noted that he plans to announce his decision in the near future.

"I’m going to make a decision over the next few days," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

The issue of Iran-related sanctions became an additional source of tension ahead of Trump’s visit to Beijing, as Chinese authorities had previously instructed domestic companies to ignore US restrictions.

Why were the sanctions imposed

The United States imposed sanctions on Chinese oil refineries as part of a broader military and economic campaign against Tehran.

At the same time, China has long remained the largest and most important buyer of Iranian oil.

Easing these restrictions could become a significant concession to Beijing following the bilateral summit between the two leaders.

Results of Trump’s visit to China

US President Donald Trump was on an official visit to Beijing, where he held a series of talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed several major international issues, including the war in Ukraine and Tehran’s nuclear program.

As previously reported, Trump said the two sides also discussed the war in Ukraine and expressed a shared desire to see the conflict resolved, although no specific details of a potential plan were provided.

In addition, Beijing and Washington reportedly reached an agreement that Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons under any circumstances.

At the same time, following the visit, Trump acknowledged that the negotiations did not produce breakthroughs either in trade relations or in broader efforts to resolve the Iranian crisis.
