Zelenskyy eyes talks with Trump on an energy truce with Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he hopes to meet with US President Donald Trump in New York next week.
When the meeting could take place
Zelenskyy specified the possible dates for the meeting — September 21, 22, or 23. According to the president, the trip to New York will take place if his schedule coincides with Trump's plans.
"We are open to an appropriate maritime ceasefire, plus an energy ceasefire. I am going to discuss all of this," Zelenskyy said.
The president added that if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not agree to a full ceasefire, Ukraine will insist on at least a partial ceasefire — a grain and energy ceasefire.
"Especially since such a number of countries support this track," Zelenskyy noted.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy previously announced a possible meeting with Trump in September, expecting to discuss the supply of ballistic missiles to Ukraine with the American leader.
At the time, the president also said that the sides were moving toward a trilateral format of negotiations involving the United States and Russia.
Zelenskyy's and Trump's in-person meeting had already been tentatively agreed upon for September, while Ukraine and the United States are simultaneously discussing new ideas regarding ending the war.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry then emphasized Kyiv's readiness to return to the trilateral format of negotiations.
An RBC-Ukraine source reported that a limited ceasefire with Russia without strikes on energy facilities could be possible this winter.
Significant diplomatic breakthroughs should not be expected before the elections to the Russian State Duma on September 18-20, after which a trilateral or even quadrilateral summit may be possible.
