A meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump may take place in the 20s of September, Zelenskyy told journalists.

Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is preparing its own Freyja missile program and hopes for US support in this area.

With European partners, Kyiv will definitely achieve the desired result, according to the president. However, until then, Ukraine needs packages of ballistic missiles specifically from the American side.

Zelenskyy expects to raise this issue at a meeting with Donald Trump.

"I am counting on a meeting with Trump in the 20s. To raise this issue. And God willing, there will be a result," Zelenskyy said.

According to Zelenskyy, the sides are moving toward a trilateral format of negotiations.

"We agreed with the American side: let's prepare all this among ourselves, and then communicate it," he added.

Zelenskyy previously proposed holding a new round of talks with US participation at the venue of the UN General Assembly in New York at the end of September.

The president expects to use the next two months to return the diplomatic process to an active phase.

The US is considering the possibility of a winter de-escalation of the war between Ukraine and Russia and the simultaneous resumption of negotiations on a broader peace agreement.

Among the ideas under discussion are steps concerning energy facilities, grain supplies, and oil and gas exports.
