US President Donald Trump said that Iran is seeking to reach a deal with Washington, but that the United States is not satisfied with the terms currently being offered, Reuters reports.

Trump made the statement on Wednesday, May 27, during a Cabinet meeting at the White House.

"Iran is very much intent, they want very much to make a deal. So far, they haven't gotten there ... ‌we're not satisfied with it, but we will be," the US President told the journalists.

At the same time, Trump hinted that if the negotiations fail, Washington could take other actions.

"We will be either that or we'll have to just finish the job," he said.

The US President did not specify which terms of the agreement are currently causing dissatisfaction in the United States

US-Iran negotiations

Trump’s latest comments came amid reports that the United States and Iran may be moving closer to an interim agreement. The US President had previously said that the document is "largely agreed upon" and that only a few details remained to be finalized.

At the same time, Iranian state television published new details of a potential agreement. According to Bloomberg, the unofficial draft includes the restoration of normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz within one month after the deal is signed.

The draft also reportedly foresees the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports and a possible withdrawal of the US fleet from waters around Iran.

However, Tehran has previously denied claims of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that Iran will retain control over the route and shipping.

In addition, the Financial Times reported that mediators between Washington and Tehran are working on a memorandum to extend the truce for another 60 days and create a framework for further talks on Iran’s nuclear program.
