US President Donald Trump said that talks on peace between Ukraine and Russia are continuing and going well, according to the White House.
"There is tremendous hatred between these two leaders, between President Putin and President Zelenskyy, and I hope we can get it done. We are talking, talks are going okay, but you know I have solved eight wars," says the US President.
This was Trump's comment on the progress of negotiations in Miami between the US and Ukrainian delegations.
At the same time, talks were held between US representatives and Putin's special envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
Meetings in Miami
Ukraine and the United States held a series of consultations during a meeting in Miami on December 19-21.
The Ukrainian side was represented by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Lieutenant General Andrii Hnatov. The American side was represented by US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as White House staffer Josh Greenbaum. In addition, key national security advisers from European countries joined the discussions.
What Umerov says
Following the talks, Umerov noted that the main focus was on four key documents: continuing work on the 20-point plan; coordination of positions on a multilateral framework agreement on security guarantees; coordination of positions on a bilateral agreement on security guarantees from the US; and continuation of work on an economic development plan (prosperity plan).
How Witkoff assessed it
Vitkoff published roughly the same thing. Trump's special envoy confirmed that during the negotiations, they discussed the development of a 20-point peace plan, agreed on positions regarding multilateral security guarantees, and developed a plan for economic development and prosperity for Ukraine.
Witkoff also stated that Russia remains fully committed to achieving peace in Ukraine.
US Vice President JD Vance announced a breakthrough in negotiations on Ukraine.
Russia's position
Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, left Miami without comment. He only noted that the next meeting should take place in Moscow.
Before this, Putin's aide, Yuri Ushakov, made a statement for Russian propaganda, in which he stated in advance that most of the proposals agreed between the US and Ukraine would not suit Moscow.
