The Kremlin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, left Miami, where talks between the US and Ukrainian delegations were taking place, without any comments. He only noted that the next meeting should be held in Moscow.
The Russian leader's special envoy briefly wrote: "Thank you, Miami. Next time: Moscow."
Later, Russian media reported that Dmitriev had departed Miami.
Earlier, Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov made a statement to Russian propaganda outlets.
He said the Kremlin was waiting for Dmitriev to report back to Putin. Dmitriev is expected to brief him on the outcomes of the talks between representatives of the United States, Ukraine, and Europe. Ushakov said in advance that "most of the proposals will be unacceptable."
Ushakov also claimed that Ukraine and Europe had proposed what he called "rather unconstructive" amendments to the US plan (which, according to him, had been drafted by Russia). Russia, he said, would work out its so-called "position" after reviewing Dmitriev's report.
Meetings between US and Ukrainian delegations in Miami
Ukraine and the United States held a series of consultations during meetings in Miami on December 19–21, focusing on four key documents—parts of a future peace agreement.
The Ukrainian delegation included National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Andrii Hnatov. The US side was represented by President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as White House official Josh Gruenbaum. Key national security advisers from European countries also joined the discussions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the third day of talks between Ukrainian and US delegations on a peace plan took place in Florida on December 21. After the meeting, the head of state said he expects a report from the negotiating team.
It is worth noting that US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff said after the Miami meeting that Russia remains fully committed to achieving peace in Ukraine.
