President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not rule out the possibility of meeting with US President Donald Trump in New York during the UN General Assembly session, Zelenskyy made this statement at a press briefing on September 17 following a meeting with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.

"Our teams are working to make it possible for us to meet," he briefly said in response to journalists’ questions about the possibility of a meeting.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on September 16 that Trump would likely meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy next week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi confirmed on September 17 that Ukraine had received a signal from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding a possible meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump. The Foreign Ministry is working on organizing such a meeting.

Anniversary UN General Assembly: What is known

The 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly will begin in New York and run from September 23 to 29. It will be chaired by former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. The Ukrainian delegation to the General Assembly will be personally led by President Zelenskyy.

More than 100 heads of state will participate in the event. Leaders will discuss global challenges — from issues of peace and security to climate change, human rights, and sustainable development. Traditionally, the High-Level Week will also take place as part of the session.
