Iran said it has no intention of resuming talks with the United States and confirmed the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating tensions in the Middle East, Al Jazeera reports.

According to a statement by Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Tehran does not plan to restart negotiations "so far." He also confirmed that Iran has decided to close the Strait of Hormuz.

According to him, the strait had previously been opened under agreements with Washington, but the decision was reversed for two reasons: continued ceasefire violations on the Lebanese front and the US naval blockade of Iranian vessels.

The Iranian side also once again said it has no trust in Washington and criticized US actions.

US-Iran talks

The statement came after Iran effectively derailed another round of negotiations with the United States by not sending its delegation to the meeting in Pakistan.

Tehran said the move was due to excessive demands from Washington, as well as a naval blockade of Iranian ports.

A day earlier, US President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran, demanding it agree to a new deal and warning of strikes on critical infrastructure.

In response, Iran said it would not recognize any pressure, refused to hand over enriched uranium, and sharply rejected EU calls to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a matter of national sovereignty.
