Swedish troops have arrived in Greenland to take part in the international military exercises Operation Arctic Endurance, according to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Twitter (X).

According to the official, Swedish officers have joined a multinational group of allied forces that will jointly practice responses to potential threats in the Arctic region.

The Operation Arctic Endurance exercises were organized by Denmark to test the operational readiness of allied forces and to practice coordination between NATO countries and partners in the North Atlantic.

Sweden deployed its personnel at Denmark’s official request.

As part of the preparations, Swedish troops will be involved in planning future phases of the exercises, including tactical maneuvers, logistical support, and coordination with other participating countries. This will help assess the allies’ ability to respond quickly to crises in the Arctic region.

Prime Minister Kristersson emphasized that the participation of Swedish forces in the exercises demonstrates Stockholm’s commitment to the principles of collective security and support for allies in this strategically important region.

Situation in Greenland

The United States is reportedly ready to pay up to $700 billion to purchase Greenland. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has already been tasked with preparing a proposal.

Indeed, on January 7, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that US President Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland.

President Trump is pushing to bring Greenland under US control in order to deploy the Golden Dome missile defense system there, citing concerns about Russian and Chinese threats.

At the same time, Denmark is trying to maintain sovereignty over the island, offering the US and NATO a compromise — expanding the military presence and holding large-scale exercises in 2026 instead of making political concessions.
