Strategic facilities in the Russian oil industry remain among Ukraine's top targets. The latest strike became part of a 40-day operation against Russia, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported.

According to the agency, the strike on the facility was carried out by fighters from the SBU Alpha Special Operations Center together with the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Defense Ministry Main Intelligence Directorate, and other branches of Ukraine's Defense Forces.

The SBU said the operation was conducted as part of tasks assigned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy within the framework of a 40-day campaign aimed at influencing Russia.

Why this refinery matters

The Slavyansk oil refinery is located in the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban, more than 300 kilometers from Ukraine's state border.

The facility is one of the key oil refineries in Russia's Krasnodar region. It produces gasoline, fuel oil, marine fuel, and other petroleum products, and exports its output through Black Sea ports.

Strike aftermath

As SBU reports, the attack triggered fires in the crude oil storage area, the petroleum products storage area, and at the refinery's primary oil processing unit.

The agency emphasized that Ukraine will continue consistently targeting military and strategic facilities deep inside Russian territory, depriving Russia of resources needed to continue the war.

"Russia must understand a simple principle: the longer it wages its war of aggression against Ukraine, the higher the price of that aggression will be," the SBU concluded.

As reported earlier, overnight on June 28, Ukrainian long-range drones struck two oil refineries in Russia—the Slavyansk refinery in the Krasnodar region and another refinery in Russia's Yaroslavl region.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated such strikes weaken the resources that support Russia's war machine.
