The US delegation is quite optimistic about the meeting between representatives of Ukraine and the US in Saudi Arabia. "Fantastic news for humanity" is expected, states US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce on Twitter (X).

"A very exciting day. A day that could mean a lot for all people around the world when it comes to what's important. Other fantastic news with humanity might emerge, so we are very optimistic. And I know the Secretary is, because we know what is at stake. I will keep you up to date here from Jeddah," Tammy said in a video.

Negotiations between the United States and Ukraine have been ongoing in Jeddah for over five hours.

The Ukrainian delegation includes Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. Representing the US are Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.

Talks in Saudi Arabia

It is worth noting that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also visiting Saudi Arabia, though it was stated that he would not be directly involved in the negotiations.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump expressed his expectations for positive outcomes from the talks in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, before the negotiations began, Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak emphasized that Ukraine seeks peace and is ready to negotiate to end the war, approaching today's discussions with US officials from a "very open" position.

At the same time, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia expects information from the United States regarding the US-Ukraine talks taking place today in Saudi Arabia.

Bloomberg reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin has no intention of compromising on demands related to land, peacekeepers, and Ukraine’s neutrality during any peace negotiations. This could complicate US President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the war.

On February 18, US and Russian delegations met in Riyadh for talks lasting approximately 4.5 hours — the first meeting of this level since the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine.

The second meeting took place on February 27 in Istanbul, Türkiye.

More on the results of the US-Russia negotiations in Riyadh can be found in a separate RBC-Ukraine report.
