UK Prime Minister Starmer stated that US security commitments are the only way to ensure lasting peace in Ukraine. This is necessary to prevent new military aggression from Russia against Ukraine, citing Reuters.

In a conversation with the media, UK Prime Minister Starmer stated that it is too early to determine how many British peacekeeping troops he would be willing to deploy in Ukraine if agreements on ending the war are reached.

When asked what US security guarantees would entail and what role peacekeeping forces might play, Starmer said discussions were still in the early stages.

However, after an emergency meeting of European leaders in Paris, Starmer noted that it became clear they would need to increase defense spending and take on greater responsibility for security in Europe.

"Europe must play its role, and I'm prepared to consider committing British forces on the ground alongside others, if there is a lasting peace agreement, but there must be a US backstop, because a US security guarantee is the only way to effectively deter Russia from attacking Ukraine again," the British Prime Minister stated.

Starmer also mentioned that another round of negotiations with European leaders regarding Ukraine is expected after his trip to Washington, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump next week to discuss the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Yesterday, UK Prime Minister Starmer announced his willingness to deploy British troops to Ukraine to ensure compliance with any potential peace agreement.

It was also reported that after the emergency summit in Paris on February 17, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that Europe is ready to take the lead in providing security guarantees for Ukraine.

Additionally, following his meeting with several European leaders in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron held talks with his Ukrainian and American counterparts, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump.
