Slovakia offers logistical support to Ukraine as part of security guarantees

Slovakia will not send its troops to Ukraine as part of security guarantees. However, it is ready to provide logistical support to Ukraine and European forces, Prime Minister Robert Fico said.
According to Fico, there is no discussion about deploying Slovak soldiers to Ukraine. Instead, the country is prepared to offer logistical support, allowing partners to use Slovakia's transport infrastructure.
Fico added that Western countries will need access to the Slovak transport infrastructure if agreements on security guarantees for Ukraine are finally reached.
On September 5, during a meeting with Fico in Uzhhorod, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed that Slovakia join a security guarantee system for Ukraine.
Fico responded by noting that Slovakia is a small country and cannot play a decisive role in security guarantees for Ukraine. But the country supports all initiatives that lead to a ceasefire and peace.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Discussions on providing security guarantees to Ukraine have been ongoing since August 18, following a meeting between Zelenskyy, European leaders, and US President Donald Trump.
On September 4, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the countries of the Coalition of the Willing had completed preparations for security guarantees for Ukraine. A short time later, the French leader clarified that 26 countries are already ready to send their soldiers to Ukraine or support such a mission.
At the same time, Zelenskyy, commenting on the possible deployment of a foreign contingent to Ukraine, said it would involve thousands of soldiers.
