Will Slovakia take part in security guarantees for Ukraine: Fico’s response

Slovakia cannot play a decisive role in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, but it supports all initiatives that lead to a ceasefire and peace, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said this during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Uzhhorod.
"I wish for a good, fair peace. I hope that a solution on security guarantees can be found as soon as possible. In this, Slovakia, as a small country, cannot play a decisive role, but we support all initiatives that lead to a ceasefire. All initiatives that lead to peace," Fico said.
He recalled that he had agreed with the Zelenskyy formula, as well as other peace plans.
The Slovak prime minister added that Ukraine’s path to the EU may be challenging, so Bratislava is offering the Slovak government’s experience in the EU accession process.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Yesterday, September 4, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the countries of the Coalition of the Willing had completed preparations for security guarantees for Ukraine.
According to him, 26 countries are already ready to send their soldiers to Ukraine or support such a mission.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on the possible deployment of a foreign contingent to Ukraine, noted that it would involve thousands of soldiers.
Today, during a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Zelenskyy proposed that Slovakia become part of the security guarantees system for Ukraine.
