Russian troops have reduced the activity of their assault units near the border of the Sumy region, but Russian troops continue to try to advance with the help of small groups, says Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Russian troops have reduced the activity of their assault units near the border of the Sumy region, but Russia continues to try to advance with the help of small groups, says Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

"The length of the border with Russia within the Sumy region is about 550 kilometers. And only on a small section of it, Russian troops continue to use their tactics of attempting to enter with small assault groups. Armored vehicles used by the enemy to break through our border are not recorded. Infantry groups are trying to use ATVs or motorized vehicles," notes Demchenko.

According to him, in the defense lanes where the State Border Guard Service units are located, the activity of Russian infantry groups and attempts to enter the territory of Ukraine have somewhat decreased over the past few days.

He also emphasizes that Russia is losing dozens of troops killed or wounded in this area every day.

"Having suffered such heavy losses, Russia may be regrouping its units there, or perhaps reducing the intensity of its actions," adds the SBGS spokesperson.

Sumy region

On June 8, Russian forces intensified strikes on the Sumy region. The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov, said that 7 people in the Nedryhailiv community and three more in the Esman community were injured as a result of the Russian attacks.

At the same time, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding the line in the Sumy region and have pushed the Russian troops back a bit.

According to DeepState, Russian troops have expanded their control in the Sumy region's border area. On June 8, analysts claimed that Russians could occupy the village of Loknia.

Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian forces had stabilized the situation in the Sumy sector, while fighting continued in Kharkiv and Luhansk regions without losing ground.
