Russian losses could hit record highs in March, Ukraine's defense minister says

Ukraine's Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has stated that Russian losses are rising due to multiple factors, and the figure for March 2026 could become a record.
"We daily receive video confirmations from the front showing enemy infantry destroying themselves. This usually happens either after being hit by a drone or while surrounded by a Ukrainian drone swarm. This number grows each day," Fedorov wrote.
He noted that the self-destruction of Russian forces results from Russia's decisions. Propaganda portrays control and superiority, but in reality, it is unprepared personnel, no chance of evacuation, and constant drone pressure.
Another factor is that Russian military leadership forbids soldiers from surrendering, while propaganda encourages them to die immediately. In other words, Russia deprives its citizens of the right to life, even though captured soldiers have a real chance of being exchanged, and such exchanges happen regularly.
"Every day of the war means more deaths. March could set a record for the number of destroyed Russians. The pattern of losses indicates that, thanks to the Ukrainian defense forces, enemy casualties will exceed 30,000 wounded and killed," the minister stressed.
He added that reaching a monthly figure of 50,000 destroyed soldiers would have catastrophic consequences for Russia. Fedorov said he would separately reveal the specific measures that could make this a reality.
Russian army losses
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia is suffering significant losses on the front. The enemy is losing roughly 30,000–35,000 personnel per month, with the ratio of Ukrainian to Russian losses standing at 1:8.
Zelenskyy also said last Sunday that Russia has stepped up its offensive due to improved weather conditions, but this has also increased its casualties. In just seven days, Russian troops lost over 8,000 soldiers.
