Losses of Russian forces near Avdiivka are likely the highest for the entire year 2023. Occupiers cannot effectively advance as the Kremlin leadership desires, according to the UK Ministry of Defense.
British intelligence emphasizes that heavy fighting has continued in the Avdiivka area over the past week. Russia initiated an offensive in this direction in mid-October.
According to intelligence, occupiers have directed up to eight brigades toward Avdiivka. They have suffered losses that are likely the highest among Russian forces in 2023.
Russian so-called war correspondents criticize the military's tactics. British intelligence believes that the nature of the Russian invasion remains the same as it was at the beginning of the war.
"Political leaders demand more territory to be seized but the military cannot generate effective operational level offensive action," the report states.
Battles for Avdiivka
This month, Russian occupiers intensified their offensive on Avdiivka. The Russians actively shell the city and nearby settlements. As Vitalii Barabash, the head of the Avdiivka Municipal Military Administration, noted, this offensive was the most extensive since 2014.
Earlier, British intelligence reported that after the assaults in the Avdiivka area, Russia's losses in the war against Ukraine increased by 90%.
