NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. They discussed the issue of ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, reports the press office of Erdoğan.

“President Erdoğan and NATO Secretary General Rutte highlighted Türkiye’s key role in the Ukraine peace process and the security of the Black Sea,” the statement said.

Erdoğan and Rutte agreed on Türkiye’s contribution, as one of NATO’s most important members, to the peace process and on close cooperation.

The leaders also exchanged views on reliable and resilient security guarantees.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Japan may participate in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, though the country is currently only considering its potential role. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba made the statement after NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte noted that Japan is part of the Coalition of the Willing.

What is the Coalition of the Willing?

The alliance consists of 30 countries and was created by EU leaders to provide security guarantees for Ukraine.

Before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the US, the coalition announced its readiness to deploy deterrent forces on Ukrainian territory.

Coalition members also agreed to send military planners to the US to coordinate security guarantees and prepare for the deployment of deterrent forces to Ukraine.
