Frontline situation

The most difficult direction on the front has shifted - instead of the Pokrovsk direction, the hardest situation is now in the Huliaipole direction, according to the latest report from the General Staff as of the evening of January 4.

Out of 154 recorded combat clashes with the enemy, 53 occurred in the Huliaipole direction.

Russian forces have been tasked with capturing Kupiansk by February, a claim that Russian propaganda had previously falsely announced as already achieved.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian defenders are establishing logistical corridors to Myrnohrad to supply troops with everything necessary.

Strategic targets of the Russian units include Pokrovsk, Kupiansk, Myrnohrad, and Huliaipole, but for now, all these cities remain under Kyiv’s control thanks to the efforts of Ukrainian units.

Regarding Pokrovsk, since autumn, it has been defended not only by the Armed Forces of Ukraine but also by other Defense Forces units: intelligence, the National Guard, Special Operations Forces, UAV specialists, and more. Coordination was challenging due to the variety of units operating there.

Recently, National Guard Chief Oleksandr Pivnenko stated that a Russian counterattack is being prepared in Pokrovsk, and Ukrainian units are being reinforced in anticipation.

However, there is also bad news: Ukraine recently lost Siversk in Donetsk, where Russian forces managed to capture territory.
