The situation around Pokrovsk remains tense, but Ukrainian forces continue to amass units for a counterattack. Though adverse weather is complicating operations, Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine Oleksandr Pivnenko said in an interview with Hromadske Radio.
"Regarding Pokrovsk, the situation there is difficult. Of course, we are amassing our units for specific counterattack operations," Pivnenko said, emphasizing that the main goal is to limit enemy maneuvers and draw their forces toward Ukrainian positions.
The weather is significantly complicating the situation. Continuous fog allows Russian forces to infiltrate, making timely detection and targeting difficult.
"The weather prevents us from effectively detecting and destroying the enemy. Of 25 strikes, about 10 resulted in destruction, and another 10 in injuries," Pivnenko explained.
He added that drone activity is limited, although Ukrainian troops remain well-trained and prepared to operate in difficult conditions. Despite this, fog greatly reduces the effectiveness of reconnaissance and strikes.
Pokrovsk direction remains one of the most tense on the front
Russian forces are attempting to advance in small groups, using the weather and challenging terrain.
The Ukrainian command has repeatedly stressed that counterattack operations are carried out only after careful preparation and accumulation of reserves. The current situation shows that the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard are adapting to changes on the battlefield, even when natural factors work against them.
Over recent months, the Pokrovsk direction has remained one of the hottest areas along the front line.
Russian forces have not stopped trying to capture the city, but, after becoming stuck in urban combat, were forced to change their offensive tactics, according to Brigadier General Yevhen Lasiichuk, commander of the 7th Rapid Response Corps of Ukraine's Air Assault Forces.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that in the Pokrovsk direction, Russian servicemen are deliberately inflicting injuries on themselves in an attempt to avoid taking part in assaults due to the actions of incompetent command.
