Russia is preparing to make contact with the United States to understand how much US President Donald Trump's peace plan has changed after being coordinated with Ukraine, states the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, according to Russian media.
He reminded that over the past few weeks, US negotiators led by Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff have been holding consultations on the peace plan.
Peskov noted that European countries and Ukraine, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, took part in these discussions.
"To understand how much it has changed, we are now preparing the relevant contacts with the Americans," Putin’s press secretary said.
Negotiations on the peace plan
Last month, the White House administration proposed a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. The document initially contained 28 points, but most of them did not align with Ukraine’s interests and, on the contrary, supported Russian interests.
It is now known that the plan has been divided into three parts: security guarantees, where there is reportedly significant progress; a framework agreement consisting of 20 points; and a document on post-war reconstruction in Ukraine.
On the evening of December 15, a new round of negotiations on the peace plan concluded in Berlin. The talks were attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, EU leaders, and US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the American president’s son-in-law.
Following the meeting, European leaders issued a joint statement concerning security guarantees and Ukraine’s reconstruction.
At the same time, according to media reports, Trump was also very satisfied with the progress of the negotiations between the Ukrainian and US delegations. Most of the issues were reportedly resolved.
