Russia mocks US as the world condemns deadly night terror in Ukraine

Representatives of European countries condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine, which claimed 12 lives. They called for increased pressure on the Kremlin.
EU
Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, wrote on her X account that the attacks once again showed Russia's intention to cause more suffering and destroy Ukraine.
"Devastating to see children among innocent victims harmed and killed. My thoughts are with the families today," Kallas said.
She called for the "strongest international pressure" on Russia to stop the war.
EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, described the escalation of Russian attacks as "alarming," noting that last night was "one of the deadliest" for Ukraine.
"As Russia intensifies its brutality, we must intensify our support. Ukraine’s EU path is not a distant goal: it is a strategic imperative. We must act accordingly," she wrote on X.
EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova noted that Russia launched massive missile and drone attacks on Ukraine for the second night in a row. The attack took place on Kyiv Day.
"Russians are relentlessly stepping up the pressure. Stepping up the terror against civilians. The attacks are more intense and frequent. They laugh at the world!!! They mock the US and mock any diplomatic attempt at peace. Peace? What peace?" Mathernova said.
The diplomat expressed outrage that the world is not responding to the terror of dictator Putin and his provocations. She urged the world to show that "we have the strength to resist, together with Ukraine!"
"How will the world react to Putin’s terror and clear provocation? To his mockery of any cease-fire discussion? I must admit, I ask myself. Putin is clearly after his stated goal, killing Ukrainians and forcing Ukraine into submission. Sadly, the only language he understands is the language of force," the ambassador wrote on Facebook.
Lithuania
Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys called for a "strong response" to Russia's nighttime terror. He also described the strike on Ukraine as "a show of sheer brutality."
"298 Shahed drones, 69 missiles, and innocent lives lost. This wasn't just an attack. It was a message of impunity. Our response must be stronger than Russian aggression: more military support and weapons to Ukraine, harsher sanctions, and isolation of Russia. Appeasement isn't a path towards peace - it's a permission to continue the aggression," Budrys said.
Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis reminded that Germany's new Chancellor Friedrich Merz promised to deliver Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Western countries also pledged tough sanctions against Russia.
"Hello, sorry to disturb you, but have you heard anything about Taurus and those crippling sanctions? Let me know, thanks," he wrote on X.
Moldova
Moldovan President Maia Sandu condemned Russia's massive nighttime attack on Ukraine. She said this is not the behavior of a country seeking peace.
In her post, the Moldovan President expressed support for Ukraine.
"367 drones and missiles. At least 12 dead. Dozens injured. This is not the behavior of a country seeking peace — it's a deliberate escalation and a brutal attack on innocent lives. Moldova stands with Ukraine. The world must respond with massive support for Ukraine," Sandu wrote on X.
The massive Russian attack on Ukraine
On the night of May 25, Russia launched another massive strike on Ukraine, using a record number of drones. According to the Air Forces, the occupiers launched 298 strike drones and 69 missiles of various types. Air defense forces shot down 45 missiles and neutralized 266 drones.
The attack targeted 13 regions, including Kyiv. More than 80 residential buildings across the country were damaged.
The nighttime terror attack killed 12 people and injured dozens more. Among the victims were three children from the Zhytomyr region. Their parents were hospitalized; the mother is in critical condition.
This is the second powerful strike on Ukraine in two days. On May 24, Russian forces also attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles and drones. Debris from the downed targets fell in six districts of the capital.
