One of the worst attacks on Kyiv leaves trail of fire and destruction

Russia carried out a combined strike on Kyiv overnight on May 24, using both ballistic missiles and drones. It was one of the most massive attacks to date, leaving 15 people injured.

The air raid alert in Kyiv was declared at 10:54 p.m. on May 23 and lasted until 5:10 a.m. on May 24, meaning it continued for over seven hours. Initially, the alert was issued due to a drone threat. Later, the Ukrainian Air Force reported ballistic missile launches. Russia directed several ballistic targets toward Kyiv.
In total, Russia launched 14 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles and 250 drones at Ukraine. According to the Air Force, the main target of the attack was Kyiv, with Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia regions also coming under fire.
Air defense forces shot down six ballistic missiles and neutralized 245 enemy UAVs (128 drones were destroyed, and another 117 were lost from radar or jammed by electronic warfare systems).
“It was a tough night for all of us. One of the most massive combined attacks on the capital. The enemy is improving its drone tactics and simultaneously launching ballistic missiles,” said the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko.
Consequences of the attack
Holosiivskyi district. Debris from a downed drone fell in several locations. One person was injured, and five vehicles were damaged.
Shevchenkivskyi district. A fire broke out in a non-residential building. As of now, the blaze has been contained.
Dniprovskiy district. Fragments of enemy targets damaged an apartment on the third floor of a residential building. A couple, a 40-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, were injured when debris flew into their apartment.
Solomianskyi district. The attack caused a fire on the fourth and fifth floors of a residential building. Seven people aged 35 to 63 were injured. A man was rescued using an emergency hood and handed over to medics with a preliminary diagnosis of smoke inhalation.
A coordination center has been set up at 14 Vitaliy Skakun Street.
Sviatoshynskyi district. Non-residential infrastructure was damaged in several locations. The fire has been localized, and firefighters are working to extinguish remaining hot spots. So far, there are no reports of injuries.
Emergency services reported that a fire broke out in a one-story non-residential building used to store paint and varnish materials as a result of the Russian attack.
