Ukraine came under another massive attack by Russia overnight on May 25. The occupiers launched a record number of drones and dozens of missiles, resulting in the deaths of more than 10 Ukrainians, including children.

Details on the aftermath of the overnight mass strike are provided below by RBC-Ukraine.

What Russia used in the attack

Last night, Russia launched 298 drones and 69 missiles against Ukraine, specifically:

  • 9 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles were launched from Russia’s Kursk region;
  • 55 cruise missiles—including Kalibr missiles from the Black Sea and Kh-101 missiles from Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers launched from Saratov region;
  • 1 Kh-22 cruise missile fired from a Tu-22M3 bomber over the Black Sea;
  • 4 guided Kh-59/69 air-launched missiles fired from tactical aircraft from the north.

Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 45 Kh-101 and Kalibr cruise missiles. Two Kh-59/69 missiles were lost by location. In addition, 266 drones were neutralized—139 were shot down and 127 lost or suppressed by electronic warfare systems.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, enemy airstrikes hit 22 locations, while debris from intercepted cruise missiles and strike drones fell in 15 locations.

It is worth noting that this was the largest drone attack by Russia to date — 298 drones were launched overnight. The previous record was 273 drones, set on the night of May 18.

Kyiv

Kyiv came under heavy attack for the second consecutive night. Damage was reported in three districts of the capital.

In the Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out on the facade of a five-story dormitory building due to a gas pipeline rupture. Another residential building was also damaged. In the Dniprovskyi district, a two-story private house was damaged.

The most severe damage occurred in the Shevchenkivskyi district. In the Lukianivka area, a multi-story residential building sustained significant destruction. RBC-Ukraine published images showing the aftermath of the strike.

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, a total of 11 people were injured in the capital, three of whom were hospitalized. Earlier, emergency services reported nine injured.

Kyiv region

The overnight terror also affected the Kyiv region, with five districts hit: Obukhiv, Fastiv, Bucha, Brovary, and Bila Tserkva.

As a result of the Russian attack in Kyiv region, residential houses, warehouse facilities, and other buildings were damaged. According to the State Emergency Service, four people were killed and 16 were injured, including three children.

Zhytomyr region

During the attack on Zhytomyr region, Russian occupiers killed three children aged 8, 12, and 17. Rescue workers recovered the body of one of the children.

Another 10 people were injured, and eight were rescued. All the injured are currently hospitalized. In total, multi-family and private houses, as well as outbuildings, were damaged in Zhytomyr region.

Khmelnytskyi region

In Khmelnytskyi region, six private houses were destroyed and more than 20 were damaged as a result of enemy shelling.

According to preliminary information, four people were killed, five sustained shrapnel wounds and are hospitalized, and one injured person is in serious condition.

Mykolaiv

A drone struck a five-story residential building in Mykolaiv, causing a fire. Two floors of the building were destroyed, and the others were damaged.

As reported, a man born in 1948 died. Five people were injured, including a 17-year-old. Two women were rescued from the rubble, one of whom was hospitalized in serious condition.

In total, 210 residents were evacuated from the damaged building.

Ternopil

A cruise missile, reportedly a Kalibr, struck an industrial building in Ternopil. A fire broke out, covering an area of 1,000 square meters.

Preliminary reports indicate no casualties or injuries.

Chernihiv region

Chernihiv region suffered a combined attack involving missiles and drones. Damage was reported on the outskirts of Chernihiv, as well as in Chernihiv, Nizhyn, and Koriukivka districts.

Warehouses and non-residential buildings caught fire as a result of the attack. The largest fire covered more than 1,000 square meters. Other affected sites included a coal warehouse and another non-residential building. A building in Chernihiv city was also damaged. No information about casualties has been reported.

Sumy region

The Russian army launched a massive strike on Konotop overnight, using missiles and attack drones.

According to Konotop mayor Artem Semenikhin, the attack destroyed an already damaged infrastructure facility in one of the city’s neighborhoods. Trees in the area were also destroyed.

"This was the most massive and combined strike on our city, probably since World War II," Semenikhin wrote.

The State Emergency Service reported that enemy drones hit a food processing plant in Sumy, damaging the roof and causing a fire. Firefighters began extinguishing the blaze but had to retreat due to the threat of a second strike. The enemy did carry out a follow-up attack.

Kharkiv

Russian forces struck the city three times. According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, impacts were recorded in the Osnovianskyi, Novobavarskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts.

"In Osnovianskyi district, a civilian enterprise was damaged," the mayor reported.

In Shevchenkivskyi district, several apartment buildings were damaged during the attack. Three people were injured.

Dnipropetrovsk region

An industrial facility in Pavlohrad was damaged by Shahed drones and missile strikes, causing a fire that firefighters managed to extinguish.

Russian forces also hit Dnipro, where a fire broke out in a three-story building.

Odesa region

In Odesa region, an attack on a parking lot located among apartment buildings caused 20 cars to catch fire. Rescuers quickly put out the fire and prevented it from spreading to closely parked vehicles nearby.

Massive attack on Kyiv

Last night, May 24, Russia launched a powerful combined strike on Kyiv, using ballistic missiles and drones simultaneously.

In total, 14 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles and 250 attack drones were launched across Ukraine yesterday. Air defense systems destroyed six missiles and neutralized 245 drones. According to air force representative Yuriy Ihnat, nine ballistic missiles were specifically targeted at Kyiv.

Debris from the downed targets fell across six districts of Kyiv. In the Obolonskyi district, a residential building and the Blockbuster Mall shopping center were damaged.
