In the night of February 15, Russian forces launched a massive drone strike on Odesa region. Railway and civilian infrastructure were damaged, large fires broke out, and part of the city experienced water outages.

Here's what we know about the latest Russian attack in southern Ukraine.

Key points

  • Russian drones hit civilian railway infrastructure in the Odesa region.
  • A fuel tank at a depot caught fire, causing a large-scale blaze.
  • Water supply was temporarily cut in part of Odesa due to emergency power outages.

Strike on railway infrastructure

According to the government and the regional administration, the attack damaged buildings at the railway depot and administrative station facilities. During a follow-up strike, a fuel tank caught fire, leading to spillage and ignition of petroleum products.

Rescuers quickly extinguished the fires, involving over 100 State Emergency Service personnel. Railway workers were in shelters during the strike, so there were no casualties.

Damage and water outages

Due to emergency power outages at water supply facilities, a significant part of Odesa is without water, including the Kyivsky, Prymorsky, Khadzhybeyskyi districts, and part of the Peresyp district.

Energy workers are restoring electricity, after which water supply is expected to stabilize during the day.

In one district of the city, blast waves damaged windows in residential buildings and educational institutions.
