On the night of October 30, Russia launched a large-scale combined strike on Ukraine, using Kalibr, Kh-101, and Kinzhal missiles, as well as Shahed strike drones. The primary targets were Western regions and cities, particularly energy facilities.

RBC-Ukraine reports on the night Russian attack on Ukraine below.

Key points:

  • Russia carried out a large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
  • Kalibr, Kh-101, Kinzhal, and numerous Shahed missiles were used
  • Main targets were thermal power plants and energy facilities in the western regions
  • Planned power outages are in effect in all regions
  • TPP equipment is severely damaged, and restoration work is underway
  • This is the third massive Russian attack on Ukraine's energy facilities in October

Ukraine's energy sector is the main Russian target

Russia began its attack with suicide drones. The Ukrainian Air Force reported Russian launches of Shahed drones as early as yesterday evening. The Chernihiv region was under Russian attack.

After 3 a.m. Kyiv time, the Ukrainian Air Force recorded the launch of cruise missiles from the sea — some struck Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, while others flew west. According to monitoring channels, Kinzhal missiles attacked Ladyzhyn (Vinnytsia region), and later strikes were recorded in the direction of Burshtyn (Ivano-Frankivsk region), Dobrotvir, and Stryi (Lviv region).

Smila, Kaniv, Chernivtsi, Ternopil, and Lviv were also under threat. In the early morning, power outages began in the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

Later, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine confirmed that Russia had again launched a massive missile and drone strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Initially, emergency power outages occurred in many regions. After 6:40 a.m., Russian missiles disappeared from the radars, but the Shahed drones continued their attack, targeting energy facilities in Ladyzhyn, Dobrotvir, and Burshtyn. In the latter, local Telegram channels reported a series of explosions.

By around 8 a.m., it became known that instead of emergency blackouts, scheduled power outages had been introduced throughout Ukraine.

According to the DTEK energy company, Russia has again attacked thermal power plants in various regions of Ukraine, severely damaging TPP equipment. Work is underway to eliminate the consequences.

This is the third massive Russian attack on the company's thermal power plants in October.

At 10:20 a.m., the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced that hourly power outages had been canceled throughout Ukraine.

However, there is a possibility that they will return within 24 hours. Therefore, it is necessary to follow updates on the official websites of the regional power companies.

In some regions, power restriction schedules for industrial consumers are in effect until 7 p.m.
