On the night of May 12, just three days after the ceasefire announced by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, Russia launched drone attacks on several regions of Ukraine.

Overnight, Russia attacked Kyiv and the Kyiv region with drones. An air raid alert was declared in the capital at 3:36 a.m.

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, debris from a downed Russian drone fell on a 16-story residential building in Kyiv, causing a fire. In the Kyiv region, a Russian drone struck a kindergarten.

Zhytomyr region

In the Zhytomyr region, cars, residential buildings, and farm structures were damaged as a result of the Russian attack. This was reported by the regional administration.

According to preliminary information, there were no casualties or injuries.

Chernihiv region

Overnight, Russia attacked the Chernihiv region with drones, according to Viacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration. In Semenivka, Novhorod-Siverskyi district, a house caught fire after being struck by a Russian drone, and in the Mena community of the Koriukivka district, a farm building was damaged by Russian drone strikes.

Kharkiv region

In the Kharkiv region, Russia attacked two settlements.

According to the State Emergency Service of Kharkiv region, in the village of Velykyi Burluk, Kupiansk district, a Russian drone struck an infrastructure facility on the premises of a company. A bus and a truck caught fire there. State Emergency Service of Ukraine rescuers extinguished the fire; there were no casualties.

In the village of Bezruky, Derhachi community, Kharkiv district, a Russian drone struck a private residence. A farm building caught fire, and a residential house was damaged. The fire was extinguished; there were no casualties.

In addition, in Kharkiv, a Russian drone struck the roof of a house, injuring a resident.

Dnipropetrovsk region

In Pavlohrad, Russia attacked a residential neighborhood. A 9-story building and several cars were damaged.

Two men were injured. A 36-year-old man was hospitalized with moderate injuries, and a 44-year-old man is receiving outpatient treatment.

Damage to transportation infrastructure has also been reported. In the morning, Russia attacked railway infrastructure facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council Chairman Mykola Lukashuk. A train engineer was injured.

Kherson region

A 68-year-old woman was injured in Kherson. Details regarding the nature of her injuries and the circumstances of the strike are being clarified.

Due to safety stops, Ukrainian Railways warned of train delays caused by safety stops in some regions.

Zaporizhzhia region

On the morning of May 12, Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, warned of threats to the region.

First, there was a warning about attack drones, then about Russian tactical aviation activity, and later about the threat of guided aerial bombs being used against the region and the city of Zaporizhzhia.

At 8:24 a.m. Kyiv time, Fedorov reported explosions in the Zaporizhzhia region and urged residents to remain in safe places until the all-clear was given. Details regarding the consequences of the Russian attack are being clarified.

Vinnytsia region

An air raid alert was also declared in the Vinnytsia region this morning. Residents there were warned of the threat of a Russian drone attack.

Later, the Regional Military Administration reported that the Vinnytsia region was under Russian attack. Explosions were heard in the region.

Russian attack ongoing

Currently, an air raid alert has been declared in most regions of Ukraine. Ukrainian Air Force is detecting new waves of Russian attack drones coming from several directions at once:

  • From the Kursk region of Russia toward the Sumy region;
  • In the Chernihiv region, heading toward Mena and Nizhyn;
  • In the Kyiv region, toward Pereiaslav and Vinnytsia;
  • In the Dnipropetrovsk region, heading toward Dnipro and Kremenchuk;
  • In the Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions, toward the north of Zaporizhzhia;
  • In the Kirovohrad region, heading toward Kropyvnytskyi.

In addition, the Ukrainian Air Force reports the use of guided air bombs in the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Russia also attacked Kyiv with a large number of drones on the night of May 12.

The day before, Ukraine proposed that the EU help broker a so-called airport truce, a mutual agreement to refrain from striking civilian aviation infrastructure in both countries. The initiative was put forward by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
