Russia gives anti-aircraft missiles to North Korea in exchange for soldiers - South Korea
Russia transferred anti-aircraft missiles to North Korea. In exchange, North Korea sent its troops to the war against Ukraine, according to Shin Wonsik, national security adviser for President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Security adviser said on the SBS TV program that South Korea had established that Russia had transferred air defense missiles and other equipment to North Korea. According to him, North Korea needs the missiles to strengthen Pyongyang's air defense against the backdrop of launches of drones with leaflets.
At the same time, South Korea does not confirm that it is involved in drone launches and leaflet drops.
Shin Wonsik also claims that Russia has provided economic assistance to North Korea and various military technologies, including those needed to build a space surveillance system.
The agency recalls that earlier Russian dictator Vladimir Putin promised North Korea to help build satellites. Last November, North Korea launched its first satellite into orbit. But in May, its second attempt failed.
AP adds that Seoul and Washington have expressed concern about Russia's possible transfer of sensitive nuclear and missile technology to North Korea.
DPRK joins Russia's war against Ukraine
It has been officially confirmed that North Korea has sent more than 10,000 soldiers to Russia to fight the war against Ukraine. The soldiers were trained at training grounds in Russia, and now they have been transferred to the Kursk region.
The Ukrainian military reported that they had already engaged in combat with North Korean soldiers. Ukraine has warned that Pyongyang wants to receive technology from Moscow in missile, nuclear, and other military programs in exchange for troops.
According to the Financial Times, North Korea has also provided Russia with long-range missile and artillery systems.
According to the BBC, Moscow has given Pyongyang a million barrels of oil as payment for military assistance.
