North Korea supplies Russia with long-range missile and artillery systems - FT
Pyongyang has supplied Russia with long-range missile and artillery systems. Some of these have been deployed to the Kursk region, according to Financial Times.
The agency reports that in recent weeks, North Korea has delivered about fifty 170-mm M1989 self-propelled howitzers of domestic production and twenty updated 240-mm multiple-launch rocket systems to Russia that can fire both conventional and guided missiles.
The new arms shipments from North Korea mark the latest expansion of the authoritarian state's support for Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Michael Coffman, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, says they follow a pattern of deepening North Korean involvement, from sending large amounts of munitions, and weapons, and becoming a direct party to this war, which could help Russian forces retake the Kursk region.
He notes that North Korea has already played a crucial role in providing millions of artillery rounds for the Russian military in 2023. And this year, it further deepened its participation by sending more than 12,000 troops.
